It was given to him by his uncle, which is more than Hemingway could afford. The house’s lavish Spanish-style architecture with luxurious fittings makes it a delight for its design and history.
Hemingway wrote A Farewell to Arms in this house and parts of many other great novels such as Green Hills of Africa and Death in the Afternoon.
He was also nicknamed Papa during his time in the house and became the inspiration behind To Have and Have Not.
Visitors to the Ernest Hemingway Museum & Home can now view more than 20 years’ worth of memorabilia from Hemingway’s life, including his typewriter, hunting trophies, and over 50 cats. Most of them have extra toes.
These cats are believed to be almost all descendants of a six-toed cat Hemingway owned.
Bok Tower Gardens
